ANNIVERSARY SHOWCASE

To celebrate, we're headed back to Fjellhov Stud for our annual showcase event!

Fjellhov Stud is located in Norway, and is the main hub for the registry's official business, handling the registry's records, sponsorships, events, Group Horses, etc. Each year, a showcase is hosted to celebrate the breed, with invitations extended to breeders, owners, and admirers across the globe. The event is held near the end of winter; some snow remains, but it is beginning to warm up.Β

During the five-day getaway, the main house is open to all guests for socializing and lounging around - buffet-style breakfast is offered each morning in the reception hall, and a group dinner will be held in the courtyard on the first night to give the attendees a chance to get to know each other. Tables will be set up with patio heaters to keep everyone cozy while they enjoy their meal!

For human guests, lodging is available at the hotel in the town nearby. Those who brought horses along for the showcase also have the option to rent a guest cabin on the property if they'd like to. The horses are kept at the main barn, with a run attached to each stall.

The main stable on the property is shaped in an open square (main block and two "arms"), with a courtyard in the middle. Another large barn is placed further out, with an indoor arena attached. There are multiple outdoor arenas and round pens, as well as sprawling pastures and smaller runs attached to some of the stalls. Overall, the property has a neat, rustic vibe, featuring lots of stonework, hedges, flowers, and wood accents. It is situated in a fairly mountainous region, and any snow that falls will be plowed diligently to keep things neat and navigable.Β

Your characters may be attending as prestigious breeders, owners of a particularly well known horse, someone seeking business connections, admirers of the breed, or perhaps they just got lucky enough to get an invite! Their reasons for coming are up to you. The event is not overly exclusive, but is also not fully public or heavily advertised, so the turnout is not expected to be massive.

The showcase itself is a two-part event intended to present your finest Loshenkas. The Halter class allows judges to evaluate for conformation and breed standard, while the Liberty class is a more laidback section to show off movement and personality. Horses may be entered in one or both classes, and while this is the extent of the officially judged portion, the stud farm's arenas and amenities are also open for attendees to utilize. Some arenas have been booked at specific times for clinics during the event (some private, some open to everyone), but are otherwise available.

The area around Fjellhov also features an abundance of trails and scenic routes through the countryside. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to go out and explore on horseback - the horses owned by the registry itself are also located at the stud farm, and can be taken on trail rides by request. Independent rides are discouraged for safety reasons; pairs or groups are advised. Trail maps are available at the main house.Β

HALTER CLASS

The Loshenka is prized for its distinct appearance - time to see how your horse measures up!

For this class, each attendee will present their horse in-hand. Horses will be evaluated at a walk and trot before being asked to stand square for closer inspection by the three judges. They will be judged on their adherence to breed standard and overall quality based on physical traits. Despite being referred to as a distinct "class," this portion of the event is held throughout the first three days with each horse being given a scheduled time to show.

Each horse is presented along the garden path between the main house and the stables. The area is marked by a stone/gravel path bordered by an assortment of plants. Russian Sage is the main attraction, but is accompanied by a variety of other flowers as well (mostly white/purple). The garden is fenced in by a short/medium height stone wall, with spruce trees just on the other side.

The path is flat and wide, allowing plenty of room to showcase each horse. There is a pocket of open grass along part of the path with a large gazebo where attendees can sit and watch. There is also room around the gazebo to stand or pull up a chair for a better view.

LIBERTY CLASS

The "stage presence" of the Loshenka breed is undeniable. Despite their excellent temperaments, they still love to perform. Originally bred for their utility, Loshenkas quickly became beloved for their spunky, energetic personalities as well. Their unique physical traits lend themselves well to Halter and Liberty events, and all of this is exactly what we hope to capture here.

In the evening on the last day, the northern lights will be visible from the grounds of Fjellhov. The class gives handlers the opportunity to let their horses loose to show off their energy and personality under the bright lights of the aurora borealis. This trial is hosted in the outdoor arena at the back of the property. The arena is medium-sized, rectangular, and features wood fencing on three sides. On the last side (the long end facing out to the fields/forest/mountains), the arena has been dug out to remain flat alongside a sloping hill, so this edge is bordered by a stone wall rather than a fence.

For this trial, there are no specific expectations or routines. The horse is let loose and encouraged to run, prance, and strut its stuff for the judges. This class is more casual than the other - all the judges expect is a good performance! For the most part, this trial is just an opportunity for the horses to let loose and show their natural temperaments and stage presence without direct instruction or cues. Each horse performs separately.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES

Alongside the two official classes, there are a variety of other activities for attendees to enjoy during their stay! The primary focus of the event is to bring the community together, and everyone in attendance is encouraged to mingle and make connections with others within the breed. The activities below are featured since they involve the horses, but you're also welcome to RP/draw/write about your human characters' general experiences at the event!

Participating in either of the two activities below will allow you to earn coins (x50)! Please pay close attention to the requirements.
To claim these coins, please list in your breakdown as "Anniversary Extra [xp x 50]"! This does not stack with normal gift coins; a gifted extra will still just be worth x50.

Exploration:

Fjellhov Stud is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and attendees are welcome and encouraged to go out and explore on horseback! The horses owned by the registry itself are also located at the stud farm, and can be taken on trail rides by request. Trail maps are available at the main house, and the hosts advise adventuring in pairs or groups for safety.Β

The most popular route consists of exploring the fields and hills around the property, riding through the forested area that borders the lake (mostly frozen around this time of year), and making your way up to one of the minor peaks of the nearby mountains before coming back.

Clinics:

Throughout the week, a number of instructional clinics have been booked by trainers from all around the world. These clinics are geared toward anyone from prospective owners to avid competitors. They center around Loshenka-specific care, horsemanship techniques, training for select disciplines, and more. Some are booked for private groups, but most are open for anyone to attend as long as they sign up ahead of time.
